FAQ

  • What’s the difference between the Nose Mask Pit and Pit Stopper?

The Nose Mask Pit is like a pollen-removal mask that is worn inside the nostrils. It is intended for people with a mild case of runny nose. The Pit Stopper is for people who already have symptoms of a runny nose. The filter component is a sponge material that absorbs your mucous while eliminating pollen. Please see the “Comparing the Nose Mask Pit and Pit Stopper” page for a detailed explanation.

  • Please explain how to choose the right size.

We carry the Small size for women and children, but also a Regular size for general customers. As a general rule, please choose Small for a smaller-size mask and Regular for a mid-size mask.

  • Are Nose Mask Pit and Pit Stopper disposable?

Nose Mask Pit is a disposable product that in general can be used for one day. Pit Stopper can be worn for one day only and used multiple times by washing gently with water. Avoid using it for multiple days.

  • For how many days can I use one Nose Mask Pit/Pit Stopper continuously?

We recommend that you change your mask about once a day. However, the Pit Stopper may be rinsed and reused multiple times in the course of one day.

  • For how long is the Nose Mask Pit effective after the date of production? Can I still use it after one or two years? (Expiry date for use)

The mask may be stored for up to 2 years, depending on storage conditions. Please avoid locations with high humidity or high temperatures.

  • For how many hours is the Nose Mask Pit effective during each use? (Number of mask changes needed per day)

The mask is effective for approximately 8 to 12 hours, depending on usage conditions.

  • What size is suitable for a female adult?

We carry the Small size for women and children, but also a Regular size for general customers. As a general rule, please choose Small for a smaller-size mask and Regular for a mid-size mask.

  • Can I change the filter on my Nose Mask Pit?

No. The filter is not sold separately, so you cannot change the filter.

  • Can I rinse the filter on my Nose Mask Pit with water and re-use it?

The filter part of the Nose Mask Pit cannot be cleaned. Cleaning will not remove the pollen. Cleaning will cause disfiguration and deterioration of the filter, which will cause it to stop functioning. We advise against washing and reusing the filter.

  • How small has the Small size become in comparison to One-size?

The diameter has been reduced by 1 mm. It is a size smaller than Regular. We recommend this size for those who have experienced bulging or uncomfortable tightness in the nose.

  • Can I still use the Pit Stopper even when I don’t have a runny nose?

You can still use the Pit Stopper without a runny nose, but you may have some difficulty breathing due to the filter, which is made of a sponge material. If you don’t have a runny nose, you can use the Nose Mask Pit instead to breathe easily while eliminating pollen. We recommend you use both the Nose Mask Pit and Pit Stopper according to your symptoms.

  • What happens to the Pit Stopper after it has absorbed a large amount of mucous? Will it leak a little?

Since the filter is made of sponge material, when its absorbent capacity is reached, the mucous may start leaking out. In that case, please remove the mask, wash it with clean water, and put it back on.

  • Is the pollen interception rate the same for the Nose Mask Pit and Pit Stopper?

The Nose Mask Pit has undergone tests by the Japan Spinners’ Inspecting Foundation and has received a certificate for 100% interception of Japanese cedar pollen. Pit Stopper has not undergone such tests and does not have a certificate. However, testing within a focus group has yielded results which meet or exceed the same level of effectiveness.

  • Can the Nose Mask Pit eliminate cigarette smoke?

The filter may not perform very well in the removal of smoke, including cigarette smoke. However, some consumers have told us that they use the Nose Mask Pit as an effective method of dealing with cigarette odours.

  • Can the Nose Mask Pit be worn instead of a protective dust mask during grinding or welding work?

Yes. You can use the Nose Mask Pit along with your current mask as well. The Nose Mask Pit is especially appreciated in workplaces that require oral communication.
